Scar Revision Therapy in Minneapolis-St. Paul
Scar revision surgery can be done under local anesthesia. It is performed to reduce or improve an unsightly scar on almost any part of the body, but it is more common on the face. There are several approaches and techniques to improve a scar. For scar revision, the old scar is removed and a new smaller scar replaces it. Resurfacing a thick or elevated scar may be performed for scar reduction by using laser, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or dermabrasions (sanding). Deep-pitted scars can be improved with a filler, but this improvement is temporary. Scar revision is not advised on keloid scars, they may be treated with a topical cortisone cream, or cortisone injections.
Recovery
Recovery and return to day activities is site-dependent and longer if large scars are revised on or near joints. Sun protection is mandatory when scaroplasty is done on the exposed area.
Dr. Mahjouri performs scar revision at West Health Surgery Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. Very frequently, additional improvement can be achieved by repeating these procedures after the maturation of scars.
