What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is the surgical removal of localized regional excess fatty tissue (resistant to diet and exercise).
There are different methods to perform this procedure:
• Conventional liposuction, which involves suctioning of excess fat deposits, using different canulas.
• The tumescent super-wet technique that requires an infusion of saline solution, with added adrenaline and possibly anesthetic prior to removal of excess fat.
• Ultrasound-assisted liposuction or UAL, where ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy excess fat prior to surgical extraction.
The newest technique to precisely and efficiently remove unwanted fat deposited in undesirable locations and an alternative to traditional liposuction is LipoSelection by Vaser. LipoSelection uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to reshape your body. Only the LipoSelection procedure uses the patented Vaser System to first liquefy and then remove fat from the body. Patients often report reduced pain, swelling and bruising compared to those undergoing traditional liposuction.
What Happens During LipoSelection?
The area to be reshaped is filled with a prepared saline solution that helps numb the site and shrink the blood vessels (to minimize blood loss and reduce bruising). This solution fills the area to be treated, making it easier to break up fatty tissue with the ultrasonic energy induced by Vaser machine. This energy transmitted by designed solid probes, transmits sound energy that destroys fatty tissue on contact leaving other tissues relatively intact. The liquefied fat is then removed through a gentle vacuum designed to minimize damage to surrounding tissues.
Ideal candidates for LipoSelection or liposuction are patients at their ideal weight that have stubborn areas not responding to diet and exercise and are in good general health. LipoSelection or liposuction is not a weight reduction procedure.
Dr. Mahjouri performs LipoSelection/liposuction, under general anesthesia as an out patient procedure, at the West Health Surgery Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. One or multiple areas of the body can be treated in the same setting. Recovery is quick.
