What is an Arm lift (Arm Reduction)?

An arm lift (brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the upper arm, from the underarm region to the elbow. 

The procedure is performed to:

• Reduce excess fat stored beneath the skin of the arm.

• Reduce excess sagging skin that hangs downward when the arm is extended away from the body.

• Tighten and reposition the underlying supportive tissue that defines the shape of the upper arm.

Most often an arm lift procedure is sought due to a loss of elasticity in the skin and underlying tissue of the upper arm.  This may result when skin is unable to shrink after significant weight loss, or due to natural changes that occur with aging, hereditary tendencies or a combination of factors.  

An arm lift cannot correct weakened muscles of the upper arms; many times individuals who are seeking an arm lift are relatively fit individuals who are bothered by a condition that cannot be corrected through exercise.

The arm lift is an out patient procedure and is performed under general anesthesia at the West Health Surgery Center in Plymouth, Minnesota. The recovery process takes several days and physical activities are restricted in the immediate postoperative period.
